Sports Design Group was the prime consultant for the field renovation at Longhorn Stadium. In April of 2008, the existing two-year old field was deemed dangerous and unusable. The stadium field had to be replaced due to compaction and drainage issues. Sports Design Group worked with the Cedar Hill ISD Facilities and School Board to fast track the project to ensure that all home games would be played in time for the fall season. The base below the field had to be removed to a depth of over two (2) feet due to the expansive wet soils. The base consisted of two (2) feet of base gravel, an impervious liner, drainage pipe and six (6) inches of drainage aggregate. A perimeter track slot drain was installed to ensure proper removal of surface water. The District decided on a monofilament synthetic turf with off-color green panels, center logos and endzone letters. The project was completed in just over two (2) months and all games were played on schedule.
